This event is designed with the intention of providing a safe space to those that identify as both LGBTQ2IA+ and neurodiverse, however, all students are welcome and there is no need to self-identify.
Who attends LGBTQ2IA+ Lego Lunch?
Students who are interested in making new connections and want to build some Lego! Anyone is welcome to attend this event and is not required to self-identify in any way. This space is intended to be a more accommodating event for Neurodiverse students and we ask that all students attending be mindful of upholding an accessible environment. If you’re interested in learning more about what this space will look like or what maintaining an accommodating environment looks like, please contact the Sexual and Gender Diversity Advisor.
For those who are interested in attending to strengthen allyship or for educational purposes, the Sexual and Gender Diversity Advisor is happy to connect one-on-one to share resources.
What happens when I come to the LGBTQ2IA+ Lego Lunch?
As an event prioritizing the comfort of Neurodiverse folks, our setup will involve feedback from planned attendees and the accommodations they request. In addition to any feedback, the event will have reduced artificial lighting (overhead lighting) and we encourage participants to be mindful of their noise output. The room will be laid out so that aside from one larger group table, there will be smaller, separate tables on the other side of the room.
If you are a student who requires or would appreciate any accommodations involving sensory input or other matters, please reach out to the Sexual and Gender Diversity Advisor to discuss it.
Who facilitates the LGBTQ2IA+ Lego Lunch?
The Sexual and Gender Diversity Team's Intersectional Connections Facilitator will host these drop-ins.
We recognize that some attendees might feel anxious about attending the event, so students are encouraged to connect with the Sexual and Gender Diversity Advisor and discuss these drop-ins in further detail.
How is confidentiality maintained at the LGBTQ2IA+ Lego Lunch?
Students who attend the event are not required to disclose identifying information, such as name, to other attendees, though some may choose to do so. We ask that all attendees refrain from asking for any identifying information of others to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
In addition, we ask that students avoid identifying other attendees when they leave the event space.
Please email outline@uoguelph.ca if you have specific accessibility requirements.
