Welcome to the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences (CSAHS), which traces its origins and traditions to the establishment of the Macdonald Institute, one of the University of Guelph's three founding colleges. The College is comprised of five departments: Family Relations and Applied Nutrition (FRAN), Geography Environment and Geomatics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology and Anthropology as well as the interdisciplinary programs of International Development Studies, and Criminal Justice and Public Policy. These programs are home to nearly 5,000 undergraduate students, more than 300 graduate students, and 200 faculty and staff. As we put teaching and research into practice, CSAHS strives above all else to contribute to the ecological, social, physical, and economic health of our planet and its people.

Welcome to the Ecumenical Campus Ministry’s (ECM) home on GryphLife. ECM is the home of the Anglican, Presbyterian, and United Church at the University of Guelph. We also host the U of G Queer Christian Community which is a space specifically for and by students at the intersection of 2SLGBTQI1+ and Christian identities. Broadly speaking, we are into following Jesus in ways that are inclusive, justice-seeking, and informed by scripture and tradition. We like to worship, serve, have fun, learn, and pray together.

If exploring Christian faith is something you are curious about, or if you have been turned off by the overbearing expressions of Christianity, ECM might be a good community to try out. Gryphons Read is a tradition at the University of Guelph, started by the well-known and well-loved author and U of G faculty, Lawrence Hill. Each year, a book that explores diverse identities and lived experiences, and is authored by a Canadian writer, is selected to be shared and read by the campus community. Gryphons Read hosts the author on campus for a few days in late September where they meet with students, staff, faculty, and community members in various classes and public events. Gryphons Read is made possible by generous funding from College of Arts, the Library, the Office of the Provost, and with support from the Experiential Learning Hub.

The Multi-Faith Resource Team (MFRT) celebrates diversity, promotes understanding, encourages harmony, and fosters spiritual growth at the University of Guelph. Off-Campus Living works closely with students, residents, City staff, landlords, and City Councilors to help facilitate communication and ease the way for students who live both in Guelph and outside of the city.

Off-Campus Living is a part of Student Experience at the University of Guelph. We work with students to make the transition to off-campus university life as smooth as possible. We promote commuter community and connections, and tenant landlord rights and responsibilities. Without the tireless work of Orientation Volunteers, Orientation week simply wouldn’t be possible. Whether this is your first time being an Orientation Volunteer or your fourth, there are ways that everybody can make a significant difference in the lives of new students as they come to the University of Guelph for the first time. Any undergraduate or graduate student can apply for an Orientation Volunteer role; you do not have to have Orientation experience to be on any of the OV teams.

Future Gryphons:
At the University of Guelph, Orientation is for all new Gryphons! Whether you’re still thinking of U of G or have accepted your offer, we are with you every step of the way as you start your Gryphon journey. The Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (S&GBV) Support and Education Centre provides leadership on campus to support survivors and engage the University of Guelph campus community in the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence through trainings, events and initiatives. Peer-to-peer education is a driving force of the S&GBV Centre's programming and initiatives, led by the SAFE Peer Team (Sexual Assault Free Environment Team), who develops and delivers student-led prevention-focused educational resources and programming.

The Arboretum encompasses 400 acres adjacent to campus featuring plant collections, gardens, walking trails, natural woodlands, wetlands, and meadows. Established in 1970, The Arboretum is home to more than 2000 different taxa of woody plants, in thematic collections such as a synoptic World of Trees, Native Trees of Ontario, and noteworthy collections of Oaks, Beeches, Maples, and Conifers. We connect people with nature and enhance teaching, research, and outreach at the University. The Arboretum is integral to many undergraduate courses, and acts as a living laboratory, providing support, expertise, and a wide variety of plants, species, and environments for researchers at all levels.
